  1. Wow! I don't think I've ever seen those before.

  2. One of southern yellow pines' WORST diseases, which visible cankers and spores should be trimmed and burned if they can be reached. Being as the Oak is the alternate host, not much can be done other than to remove the cankers; which is why foresters try and destroy all oaks in a stand they clearcut ! With all the insects and diseases that pines have, it's a miracle any survive !!! Blessings

    1. The link has a lot of info on what causes them. Our area is overly afflicted with them this year. In all my 67 years I've not seen them this bad before.

  4. I'd no idea! Like the late great blogger Rick used to exclaim, "Every day's a school day."

  5. The "gall" of that tree to do that! LOL. Yikes. I hope it doesn't kill the tree? I hope it doesn't spread to others. What can you do?

    1. Funny, I almost titled this "The Gall Of It", tongue in cheek, you know. 😁It can kill the trees and it does spread. Not a whole lot I can do. Too much acreage that would have to be sprayed or pruned. Can't do it. I had to give it to God. 😊
