Throw Back Thursday: Our Love Was Once In Tents

Hubby and Sparky

In 1979, we were newly wed, full of the moxie of youth, bright eyed with great hopes for the future. Gainful employment was easy back then. Jobs where plentiful. The future was bright. We weren't rich but we weren't broke either. Whatever life was to throw at us, it didn't matter, we where ready. And, ultimately, loves conquers all.

Our first trip together was on a shoe string budget, so, we planned for a location close to home in western North Carolina. This trip we spent a lot of time camping and hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville and all parts in between.

Hubby brought a vivid blue two man pup tent into the marriage. This was the start of a long love affair for me with camping. Soon after this trip, we 'moved up' to a 6 man Hillary canvas cabin tent sold by Sears. It gave us many years of faithful service and happy memories. Many years later, tired of sleeping on the ground, we bought a towable Recreational Vehicle. Now that we live in the woods, an RV was no longer exciting. I really miss being outdoors on our trips, though, but Hubby grew weary of all the work. Can't say that I blame him.

Above is the dear man during his salad days sitting by a stream on the Blue Ridge. I fell in love with that charming smile the first time we met. I am happy to report that he is still that wonderful guy and more.

Thank you LORD Jesus for all our wonderful years together.

"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh." Ephesians 5:31

Loved this! Your hubby's blue tent is very similar in size and age to a orange camel tent I brought into my marriage that came FREE with a carton of smokes, if I recall :) We camped in that thing our first year of marriage in 1986. There was a tremendous rain storm during the night. I had not positioned us on high ground, nor had I dug a mote, so needless to say... I don't remember getting up in the middle of the night and going to the van, and NOT waking up my bride to do the same. Now she will never let me forget that.

@Victor and Alec ~ Thank you gentleman.
@DaBlade ~ I can't remember how many times our tent flooded. Those unfloored tents are for mad dogs and Englishmen. That's why we moved up to the Hillary tent (larger with a canvas floor and flaps) and from there an RV. These old bones prefer Holiday Inn Express now. Much smarter. *giggle*
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

I can see love, happiness, fun and future in those smiles. I love the Blue Ridge Parkway too, but have never camped - there or anywhere else. If the Holiday Inn counts as camping, then yes, I have. Have a nice Friday and weekend coming up.

Husband and I used to camp, and we loved it.
The area of western North Carolina is a spectacular place to be....inside or outside of a tent.
I love the photos that you posted. I enjoy seeing my sweet blogging friends.
Continued blessings to you both.

My first wife and I honeymooned by riding my 750 south to the Blue Ridge with a 2 man tent.
Good stuff.
Congrats that you stayed together.

What a blessing---the man and the camping! It IS a lot of work! OH--but now there is a whole new movement ---ultra light--minimalist. It comes at a high cost. You can't win!
Thank you for sharing. You are really beautiful, Sparky and your man quite handsome!

It sounds as though you both found a soulmate in each other and even though the tents etc have long since gone, you are still very much in each other's lives. Well done, gold star!! xx
