Our Day In Pictures

We lost another giant pine tree to lightning. So, I snapped a few photos of "our tree guy" taking care of the problem of a deadly monster on the driveway. One wouldn't think it to look at them, but dead trees can be deadly. We've personally known of too many instances where people were killed by falling trees, especially in heavy winds.

So ...

The tree had to go!

"'Bye, 'bye savings!" (me waving to the money I'd saved from not eating out for one month). Aw well.

At least the Stock Market has been up this past week, inspite of congress and the Magic Kenyan trying to wreck it.

Good Stock Market = Happy Face!

Here's some photos:

Topping the tree ... "Watch out below!!"

A neighbor stopped by to say hello and be nosy ... [wink]

Kablooey!!
Please tell me that's not my pretty driveway reflectors under there?!? [groan]

Thanks for stopping by. I hope y'alls day was cheaper than mine. [sigh]

  1. Ugh! I know how costly dead trees are to remove. Too bad you can't eat the pinecones! At least it has been a pretty day here in GA. Our humidity has not been so bad here in the northern part of the state. Take Care.

  2. I am sorry you had to lose a tree! It reminded me of what is going on here. Our town's sewer system has to be upgraded and the street they are currently working on now has NO TREES ALONG THE STREET! It looks so ugly. I am praying our street will be spared! Everyday when I come home from work, I hold my breath...

  3. Aren't "tree guys" amazing?! We have had to have a few out here on occasion because a particular tree was in a spot Dirt didn't want to deal with. Other than those, Dirt takes down most of ours and in fact during his time off recently took some down along our driveway. He does not climb up like the tree guys but he used our friends backhoe to guide them down and plop right where he needed it to go; not on the highway, not on the neighbor's fence, not on the pasture fence just right on all the special undergowth I keep an eye on. So much for my eye!

Have a good rest of the day eh?

  4. Mildred ~ "Did you ever eat a pine tree? Some parts are edible." (Euell Gibbons) He always tickled me the way he spoke. It was beautiful here this AM (nice and cool), then the sun came out. Yuck! It got really hot by noon.

Sue ~ I know, I don't like losing trees. It's like someone cutting me down. I enjoy my quiet giants in the yard. Hope your street will be spared the de-treeing! Here's my prayers too.

Lanny ~ Tree climbers are truly amazing! No Way Jose' would I climb anything that high. Yipes! I get a nose bleed on the kitchen stool. We can't cut down our own trees anymore because of hubby's poor health. Well, that's what money's for ... (gasp, groan) ha ha

Thanks y'all for stopping by. :o)

  6. ChaCha ~ I guess we've all been seperated from our money with all these yard projects. [sigh] Sorry you've felt the pain too. Isn't Condo life looking really good right now ... ?? [giggle]

  7. Sorry about the tree. I think all tree guys wear bib overalls. It's only money Sparky. Glad to see Steve taking care of his motorcycle. I'm really impressed to see the instruction manual spread out on the seat. Hope you have a great week. Pappy

  8. We live in Atlanta in a condo so do not have those problems here. However, we have a home on Hilton Head SC and have so many pine trees. Just put on a new roof this Spring and now we are having more trees taken down and honestly the cost is just amazingly painful but it is a dangerous and skilled job and there is no way we could do it so we have to pay the piper. I am sure some place in the stimulus package someone is getting paid for taking down trees that you and I are paying for!

  9. Did the nosy neighbor escape unharmed? I guess you can start filling the jar and start a new fund.

  10. Pappy ~ Yeah, Steve always impresses me with the meticulous way he keeps everything in Apple Pie order. Sorry to hear about your battery troubles! Since then, we are going to buy a new one for our Jeep.

JOyce ~ I know, these pine trees are getting to be a pain. If I could afford it, I'd have someone come take ALL the tall ones. Maybe I could sell them instead? That's lots of good lumber out there.

Carey ~ You always make me LOL!! How do people know about my temper ... ?? I really don't mind a nosy neighbor. We do all watch out for each other. I hadn't thought about trying to raise money ... maybe I could get some of that phony stimulus package?? [giggle] :o)

  11. We had to have an old rotten tree cut down a few years ago. It was right outside our bedroom and it looked like it would topple over any minute. I must admit for some reason it was very interesting watching them cut it down. lol

  12. I'm sorry you had to lose that tree. We cut several poplar trees because we were afraid the storms would blow them down on our house. I always hate to see a tree cut. Great blog. I love the photos of your redbirds.

  13. Valerie ~ It is interesting watching them fell a tree, especially when it was in a tight spot like this one. They did it so quickly too. Absolutely amazing.

Brenda ~ Thanks for the compliment. We are 'lousy' in cardinals on our land (and happily so). I don't like losing trees either. It's almost like losing a friend, but not as serious. I enjoy all my trees because they attract so many birdies AND provide shade from our unbearable SE Georgia heat. :o)
